Maruhide Uni Club, Torrance, CA: Nothing like the high of seeing uni listed in every single menu item...oh man. Finally made it here (within two hours of landing at LAX yesterday no less) and while the dishes are fun, ultimately, the sea urchin itself tasted...fishy sour? Also, was sad to realize that lunch is only a partial menu vs. full dinner menu. End of the day, the scallop carpaccio topped with uni was my favorite - really flavorful. The uni shutou trio sampler - I did original, squid, and yuzu/chili - was funky but worth a try. The sea urchin pasta was good (but the one at #BastaPasta in NY is exponentially better with 10 times the uni and sweet ocean flavor) and the uni sushi was ok - again, just not that fresh.
